The projected cost of the proposed Senior Center on College Avenue is not sitting well with several City Councillors. Councillor Jim Turner and Jamie McIntosh thinks that $19.9 million for the new 36,000 square foot senior center is just too high. Based on the size of the proposed center, the cost would be about $550 per square foot. Turner says he’s spoken with several contractors in the city, and they feel that the number should be closer to $300 per square foot. That would drop the cost to about $10.8 million. Chief Accounting Officer Marete Hegglund says the gymnasium and the commercial kitchen has boosted the cost of the senior center.
