Crime in Medicine Hat is continuing to fall. The crime severity index number in the city dropped to 62 this past year. That scale provides a number in relation to volume and severity of crime together. That total is the lowest since the system was put in place in 1998. The number also falls well below the provincial average and slightly below the national average. Police Chief Andy McGrogan says the big reason for the drop is the reduction in violent crime in the city lately, which just last year dropped almost 15 points down to 55.
