City officials feel that the lower Canadian dollar and people uncertain about their budgets could cause a rise in local and foreign tourism. The city has tried to increase knowledge of local tourist options like the teepee and Esplanade this year to encourage locals to stay home, as well as draw attraction from other parts of Canada and the world. Officials also say a recent ad put on TripAdvisor has been responsible for over 80 percent of Canadian website traffic on the city’s tourism website.
