Hatters are once again being warned of a fraud in the city. The Medicine Hat Police Service received a complaint of a fraud yesterday from a resident who said they had been scammed by an individual claiming to work for the Canada Revenue Agency. Police warn that taxpayers may receive emails, phone messages, text or mail from people claiming to be from the CRA. In all these cases, the scammer requests personal information from the victim, and the fraudsters will also insist that payment be made with a pre paid credit card or pay-pal. CRA officials say that they occasionally call taxpayers, but never request immediate payment. Police urge Hatters that if they feel they are being scammed to contact them immediately at 403-529-8481.
