Solar project over budget

The city’s new Solar Project has gone $3 million dollars over budget. At City Hall last night, Council was told that According to a city report, poor cost estimates and inflation were found to have pushed the final cost of the solar project from $9 million to $13.4 million. Councillor Bill Cocks said they should have known sooner about the size of the overrun, and questioned chief administrator Merete Heggelund about it. Mayor Ted Clugston, the former chair of the energy committee, and one of the Councillors who pushed for the solar project, said the cost overruns are regrettable and compounded over time, but the project still has value.
