Some local churches are teaming up to help Syrian refugees when they arrive in the city. Lutheran, United and Presbyterian churches have banded together to form the Medicine Hat Area Refugee Team. Officials with the organizations say the team will help to raise funds to privately sponsor the refugees. They say that contributions given to an individual church will be pooled together to help bring one or more families to the area. Reverend Nancy Cocks of St John’s Presbyterian Church says this is a multi-faith group focusing on a compassionate outreach.
