A Medicine Hat man originally charged in the death of his roommate, was sentenced yesterday. 29 year old James Neil was charged with manslaughter by Medicine Hat Police in July. According to officials, Neil and his roommate, 44 year old Greg Dyrland got into a fight in their home, and Neil pushed Dyrland down a flight of stairs. However, a toxicology report showed Dyrland died from a combination of cocaine and alcohol and not from the fall. The Crown Prosecutor dropped the manslaughter charge and Neil pleaded guilty a charge of common assault. Neil was sentenced to 1 day in jail and was given credit for time served.
