A meeting to discuss the possibility of disbanding the City Centre Development Agency featured some furious and emotional responses. The meeting last night became a heated discussion about the motives of its organizers and even how the media can alter the truth. Some in attendance felt the issues at the Monarch hadn’t had a fair hearing, and there were even accusations of a secret agenda. However, two women addressed the meeting saying their daughters were mistreated while working at the Monarch Theatre, and they had no secret agenda. The CCDA has been the centre of controversy after the CBC reported that younger workers at the Monarch Theatre were allegedly subjected to verbal abuse and lewd discussions. According reports, a labour standards investigation is ongoing and the matter may be before the Human Rights Commission, which deals with harassment issues.
