Some downtown business owners are calling for the dissolution of the City Centre Development Agency. They say it isn’t dealing properly with allegations of workplace harassment against teens and young adults at the Monarch Theatre. Former employees of the theatre, ranging from 13 to 25 years old have come forward to say they were sexually harassed and verbally abused by the theatre manager in incidents that spanned from 2013 to this past summer. The CCDA has dismissed the complaints as unfounded. The CCDA was created by the City of Medicine Hat with the goal of boosting economic activity downtown, and membership in the group is mandatory for area businesses. A petition of 25% of members would be enough to force city council to deal with the issue in a council meeting.
