A Medicine Hat woman convicted of 2nd degree murder will be getting a new trial. 31 year old Wendy Scott pleaded guilty in 2012 and was sentenced to life in prison with no parole eligibility for 10 years. In an October 15th Alberta Court of Appeal decision, the court struck the guilty plea, quashed the conviction and ordered a new trial on the charge of 1st degree murder. The court also reinstated a publication ban on naming the co-accused or the victim in the case. Scott is now scheduled to make an appearance in Medicine Hat Court of Queen’s Bench on November 19th at which time a Justice will fix a new trial date.
