The downturn in the oil patch continues to affect local businesses. Yesterday, Caron Transportation Systems announced that they will be shutting down their terminal in Redcliff. Caron Transportation is one of the largest carriers of bulk commodities in Western Canada, employing more than 300 people. Bruno Muller, Caron’s president and CEO, says much of their work in the Medicine Hat area involves the oilfield industry, and the slow down in the energy sector makes it too difficult to operate the terminal in Redcliff. 2 or 3 staff will stay on to maintain the building, but the rest will be either given their pink slips, or will have the option of transferring to their other locations in Saskatoon, Calgary or Edmonton.
