An early morning checkstop by Medicine Hat Police has landed one man in jail.  Officers were conducting the checkstop on Allowance Avenue early yesterday morning and noticed a man in the backseat of a car not wearing a seat belt.  He gave a false name when asked and when officers told him he was under arrest asked him to get out of the car he tried to run from the scene.  He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.  A search of the vehicle resulted in the location of a loaded sawed off pistol grip 12 gauge shotgun as well as small quantity of drugs including just over a gram of Ecstasy and 26 pills of Hydrophone.  The 22 year old man is currently in police custody awaiting a bail hearing on bail violations, firearm, and drug charges
