A Medicine Hat police officer is recovering in hospital after he was hit during a car stop. Police say that just after 1 am yesterday morning, police tried to stop a vehicle at Dunmore Rd and Kipling Street after it fled from officers previously. That’s when the Ford F-350 truck rapidly backed up trying to hit the two police cars behind him and struck the officer. Officers pursued the truck and the Redcliff RCMP were brought in on the chase as it left the city towards Seven Persons. The truck was finally stopped by a spike belt but not before an RCMP cruiser was badly damaged and another car also hit. A 55 year old man is in custody awaiting charges. The Medicine Hat officer is reported to have non-life threatening injuries. RCMP are asking anyone that may have witnessed the chase to contact them at 548-2288 or Medicine Hat Police at 529-8421
