Alberta’s Education Minister has announced delays in the provincial school modernization and building program. Dave Eggen told a news conference yesterday that about 100 school construction projects which were to be completed starting next September are already behind schedule. Eggen is blaming the former PC government, saying they failed to set out realistic construction timelines. However, Ric McIver, who was infrastructure minister for the Tories when the school announcements were made, said the Notley government, not the former administration, is to blame for the delays. The original completion date for work at Hat High and CAPE School was the fall of 2016, but that has been moved to September 2018, McCoy’s upgrade should be done by Christmas 2016, and the work on Eagle Butte High School and the proposed elementary school for Ranchlands have yet to be determined.
