The former manager of Senior’s services at the Veiner Centre is speaking out after the city council vote last week. Diana Jossa says that the basement of the old Veiner Centre is “nothing short of a fire trap” for anyone in a wheelchair. Jossa says that prior to the 2013 flood, the Viener Centre had ongoing problems with the elevator as well as temperature control, noise levels and not enough space for seniors’ activities and programs. Jossa add that the Veiner Centre is an old building that didn’t meet the needs of seniors then, so she can’t understand how it could meet the needs of seniors now without extensive renovations and expansion. The city’s administration will provide City Council with options and estimated costs for expansion at the Veiner Centre within the next few weeks.
