Commendations for MHPS Constables

Two Medicine Hat Police officers have received commendations or saving a woman’s life.  On August 24th, Constables Chris Schlenker and Zac McBriarty responded to a call about a woman who wanted to drown herself in the South Saskatchewan River.  Schlenker tried to negotiate with the woman who then began to run into the river.  Schlenker removed his duty belt and immediately followed her in and was able to finally grab the woman in water that was up to his shoulders.  McBriarty joined him and together they were able to restrain the woman and bring her to shore where she was transported to hospital.  Chief Andy McGrogan in presenting the commendations, praised the Constables for their quick actions and risking their own safety in keeping a woman from harming herself.
