Home heating is going up but it will cost you less to run your lights in Medicine Hat.  The City has released the September utility rates and natural gas has climbed to $3.10 per gigajoule which is up from last months $2.83.  Electricity meanwhile is dropping from 6.9 cents per kilowatt hour in August to 5.36 cents per kilowatt hour this month.  The Going Green surcharge for  September is $0.0050 per kilowatt hour.   City of Medicine Hat officials have long maintained they set their monthly charges based on an average of what other providers in the province are charging their consumers.
