A thicker blanket of smoke blew into the Medicine Hat area overnight. According to Alberta Health Services, The Air Quality Health Index rose to nine yesterday. The health risk is considered high with a Health Index is between seven and 10. Individuals with respiratory conditions such as copd and asthma, and individuals with existing cardiovascular conditions such as angina, previous heart attack and congestive heart failure, may notice a worsening of symptoms, and should stay indoors and keep their windows shut. Health officials say that despite the poor air quality, there have not been any additional visits to Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. A special air quality statement by Environment Canada remains in effect.
