A somber ceremony will take place in Medicine Hat this morning along with many other communities across the country. Put on this year by The Medicine Hat Regional Safety Committee and the Alberta Construction Safety Association the National Day of Mourning Ceremony recognizes the workers who have lost their lives due to injury or illness in the workplace. Canadian figures through 2013 show that 902 workplace deaths were recorded in Canada. While it is the lowest total since 2000 when 882 fatalities were recorded, this number still represents 2.47 deaths every single day. The ceremony will take place this morning at 11:00 am at Memorial Arboretum Park at the bottom of Scholten Hill. The public is invited to attend and lay flowers at the cenotaph if they wish.
