An overflow of seniors at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital is prompting a response by Alberta Health Services. AHS is adding 12 beds to the hospital, and they hope to have them in use by next Tuesday. There are currently 67 seniors in alternative care beds at the hospital. They are well enough to be discharged but still need care in the community, which isn’t available. AHS South Zone spokesman Sean Chilton says the problem clearly shows an aging population and an increase of seniors in the area.
