A Redcliff man is recovering in hospital after he was shot by a Redcliff RCMP officer. Police say a man came to the RCMP detachment on Mitchel Street in the town, at about 3:30 a.m. Monday morning. It was then that the man pulled out and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at officers when they tried to approach him and he was shot as a result. The wounded man was taken to hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition. Police seized a black Smith and Wesson 177-caliber BB gun from the scene. Bernard Norman, 33, of Redcliff, is charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and Assault on a Peace Officer. The Alberta Serious Incident Response team was on the scene early yesterday and will continue investigating, which is standard procedure in all officer-involved shootings.
