It’s Fire Prevention Week across the country and here in Medicine Hat the message is smoke detectors. Safety Codes officer for the Medicine Hat Fire Department Grayson Smith says this year smoke detectors are the main focus and he is reminding Hatters to test them once a month. Smith says that batteries, if required, should be changed during time change weekends in the spring and fall. Smith said that this year, firefighters will be visiting about 2 dozen schools in the area stressing to students the importance of having a plan and knowing what to do in case of a fire. Fire Prevention week started yesterday and will run through this coming Saturday.
