The long awaited Vanier House in Medicine Hat is officially open. The CORE Association along with many dignitaries celebrated the grand opening of the facility on Friday which coincided with the 60th anniversary of the group. The Former school has been re-purposed as a facility that will provide housing to adults with developmental disabilities and dementia. There are 10 rooms there that will include 8 for residents and 2 more for community respite care. Doorways were all widened to accommodate wheelchairs as well as many other improvements. Executive Director Rita Bessant credited former MLA Rob Renner for his work in getting initial funding from the province back in 2012. The facility still needs one more inspection that officials say will take place this week.
