The fate of the man accused of killing 23 year old Amy Lewis is expected to be decided today. 36 Year old Jerrison Stopanski on Monday plead guilty to the reduced charge of manslaughter in the case. During sentencing hearing submissions, victim impact statements were read as well as legal submissions to Justice Rodney Jerke. The Crown is asking for Stopanski to serve 8 years in jail while the defense is seeking a 6 year term. The agreement between attorney’s agrees that time served would be counted towards the final sentence. By law, Justice Jerke is not bound by the agreements made and could impose his own sentence. The decision is expected to be made this afternoon in Medicine Hat Court of Queen’s Bench
