It was an emotional day in a Medicine Hat courtroom. Victim impact statements were read into record in the sentencing hearing of 36 year old Jerrison Stopanski yesterday by the family of Amy Lewis. A total of 8 statements were read in court including one by Lewis’ pre-teen niece. Stopanski did address the family directly in a statement that said, she didn’t suffer much and for the family not to become victims. Stopanski at this time still has not said how Lewis was killed or where her body is. In legal submissions to Justice Rod Jerke, lawyers for the crown and defence were asking between 3.5 and 5.5 years jail time, including time served. Justice Jerke is expected to set down his sentencing verdict tomorrow afternoon
