Stopanski pleads guilty to lesser charge

Pre-trial hearings were halted in Medicine Hat Court for Jerrison Stopanski. As the hearings began yesterday, the 36 year old’s lawyer announced Stopanski would be pleading guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter in the death of 23 year old Amy Lewis in 2012. Lewis disappeared on June 11 that year and Stopanksi was arrested 4 days later. In the month that followed he was charged with 2nd degree murder. During yesterday’s proceedings, court heard that blood evidence was recovered from Stopanski’s jeep following his arrest. Not revealed yesterday was any information regarding the body of Lewis that has not yet been found. Sentencing proceedings continue today with legal submissions as well as victim impact statements
