With the summer comes many outdoor activities and a warning from Alberta Health Services. Medical officer of Health Dr Vivian Suttorp says that Hatters need to take precautions against West Nile Virus. Suttorp says that because some mosquitoes do carry the disease it’s important to take precautions against being bitten at all. Using an insect repellent that contains DEET is at the top of her recommendations, also things like wearing long sleeved and light colored shirts and long pants. Suttorp says hats are often overlooked but can make a difference to mosquito bites on the head.
