Medicine Hat’s battle to end homelessness is getting a major cash infusion. Late last week, Medicine Hat MP LaVar Payne announced $1.5 million has been allocated by the federal government for the Medicine Hat Community Housing initiative. Payne said that bringing an end to homelessness will help the community as a whole. Jaime Rogers with the housing society said that the money is being spread out over 5 years and that means local officials now have the ability to plan longer term. Aboriginal social service organizations will get a major allocation of the funds with the other groups like McMann Family Services and the Women’s shelter to figure prominently in the mix.
